Overview

The Facilities Manager is an important member of the Engineering and Capital Project Management team. We are looking for someone to apply their science-centric facility, equipment, and utility engineering expertise to our R&D and production facilities. This hands-on role will be involved in various aspects of facility and infrastructure-focused engineering efforts for existing and new facilities, from conceptual to detailed design, during construction, startup, testing, and commissioning, and throughout the on-going operations of the facilities as required. The role will also assist leadership with the creation and execution of engineering management processes, facility design guidelines, policies and standard operating procedures, energy resource reduction efforts, and pursuing other opportunities to further the value-add proposition of the Engineering team.


Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing all activities of building maintenance consisting of heating, ventilating, and cooling systems, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, refrigeration, fire protection, contracted physical plant operations, and building instrumentation.
  • Manage day-to-day communications with all departments, building maintenance, and outside services.
  • Responsible to ensure all contractor work related to manufacturing, support and Facilities equipment is properly supervised and follows all applicable Standard Operating Procedures
  • Support research and technical operations by maintaining infrastructure needs, vendor relationships, and hazardous waste management
  • Develop the plant operations budget including projections of anticipated work and materials for general building maintenance and bids for contract services.
  • Lead science-centric strategic decisions for capital projects based on scientific knowledge, education, and level of experience
  • Responsible for facility inspections for quality assurance on a periodic basis. Ensure facility procedures comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Purchase required maintenance tools/equipment/supplies to streamline processes and increase efficiency. Obtain and review price quotes for the procurement of parts, services, and labor for projects.
  • Manage and maintain a 52-week maintenance calendar
  • Develop detailed planning to control departmental elements, including spending, staffing, etc.
  • Execute equipment audits and record-taking policies
  • Ensure compliance with applicable local, state, federal and international regulations as required


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent and 7+ years’ experience in Facilities Management or Lab Property Management; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Expertise in mechanical systems plus advanced knowledge of other core facility engineering disciplines including electrical, plumbing, and fire protection is required.
  • Extensive experience with office and R&D facility design, including architectural elements, lighting controls, FF&E, specialty R&D equipment, etc.
  • Solid CMMS, project management, and planning skills
  • Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental, health, and safety compliance laws and regulations
  • Demonstrate effective self-management and act on improvement opportunities
  • Ability to navigate and be successful in a fast-paced, highly matrixed work environment
  • Strong interpersonal, customer relations and follow-through skills with the ability to foster relationships both internally and externally
  • Ability to adjust to workload changes and prioritize competing demands
  • Ability to balance the big picture and fine technical details
  • Outstanding organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal and communication skills
  • CFM Preferred
  • Strong Microsoft Suites
